- Try a loop antenna. There is one in the May, 1994 issue of QST with dimensions

- Didn't we have a discussion a one or two months ago concerning

- Did IMD testing get done at the LF end ? most PIN diodes have long

- I wonder about the switching diodes at the inputs to the main IF

-
- Amazingly, the ARRL feed seemed to get "slow" when he stopped. A co-inky-dink?
- All because some in the communications world didn't want to handle getting

- I just passed my 13 wpm code test upgrading to general, so I would like
- to input what I think.I did find a big difference between the cw computer
- programs and real world cw qso's. Working cw really trains your ear to
- here those fading signals. I have had qso's where half-way through the
- signal eithers fades out entirely, or qrm kicks in drowning the other
- person out. But, I have gotten QSL cards from these hams so it wasn't a
- total loss. There are clubs in my area that send code practice sessions
- over vhf and 10 meters. Most of my getting the speed from 5 wpm to 13 wpm
- was by working cw qso's evry night on 7100-7150 Mhz.I started answering
- faster and faster cq's so I had to concentrate and copy faster.

- Subject: PLSE INCLUDE SASE FOR DIRECT DX QSL CARDS!!!
- To: info-hams@ucsd.edu
-
- I just returned from 2 weeks portable S5, and very much enjoyed working some
- big pileups. Already, there are over 100 QSL cards here for us in the first
- couple of days back in the States.
-
- I am dismayed, however, by the number of cards that are coming in direct
- without return postage.
-
- For the DX-ing newcomers out there:
-
- IF YOU HEAR A DX STATION WORKING BIG PILEUPS, AND YOU WANT THE CARD DIRECT,
- PLEASE INCLUDE A STAMPED, SELF-ADDRESSED ENVELOPE!!!
-
- If you are ragchewing with some station in the States and want to exchange
- QSLs, that's one thing. I never mind exchanging cards direct with someone,
- if I've worked them from home (Massachusetts).
-
- But please try to think about a DX station who is working hundreds or
- thousands of contacts a day. It is really unreasonable to expect them to foot
- the entire bill for postage.
-
- For example: I was often working 3 QSOs a minute. If you figure 2 were
- Stateside and one was in Europe ... if all those hams sent me cards direct,
- without return postage, that would cost me $1.08/minute to be on the air.
- It would be cheaper if I stayed home and telephoned Slovenia, and paid
- the international telephone rates, than to be on the air with costs like that!
-
- I don't expect people to include "green stamps" ($1 bills) in addition, to
- help with QSL expenses -- it's very, very nice, the few people who do that,
- and much appreciated. I am willing to pay the costs of my own
- QSL cards, that's part of the DX-pedition cost.
-
- But I can't afford 2 weeks on the air at $65/hour in postage costs! The cards
- that are coming in direct without return postage will probably be answered via
- the bureau.
-
- Thanks,
-
